A new board was elected on Wednesday afternoon to take forward the charge of protecting the island’s children.

The Montserrat Children’s Society, now in its third year, held its Annual General Meeting at the Hilltop Coffee House.

Reelected were President: Janice Panton, Vice President: Dr Asha Gopal; Treasurer: Bhavika Valechha. New board members are Secretary: Collette Bates and Project/Communications Officer: Vidya Birkhoff.

Special thanks was given to the past board members and volunteers.

The society was established in 2013 to help vulnerable children who have urgent, professionally assessed, health, social or educational needs regardless of race nationality or disability. They are also committed to act to help secure the well-being of children in Montserrat and so protect them from all forms of harm.

Annually, the organisation hosts the Summer Play Scheme which serves children aged four to seven. In 2015, they also conducted a summer experience programme to help teenagers learn more about the world of work. The group also hosts national events to commemorate the International Children’s Day.
