Chief Electrical Inspector at the Physical Planning Unit and Defence Force Major Alvin Ryan has been appointed as the Interim Director of the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) effective Monday March 12th, 2018.
Major Ryan replaces Carlisle “Pyko” Williams who returns to his substantive position as Instrumentation Engineer at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) where he will continue to assist the observatory in the monitoring of the Soufriere Hills Volcano.
The Office of Deputy Governor expressed its thanks to Mr. Williams for his invaluable contribution as Acting Director, especially during the testing and record-breaking 2017 Atlantic Hurricane season.
Major Ryan, who is the Commanding Officer of the Royal Montserrat Defence Force (RMDF), has a wealth of knowledge and experience in Disaster Management.
As a member of the RMDF, he played key roles in search and rescue efforts in the early stages of the volcanic eruption in the 1990’s and during Hurricane Hugo in 1989.
The recruitment process to find a permanent Director and a review of the DMCA are currently underway.
