Montserrat’s Regional Female Calypso Show Tonight

The popular female calypso competition Queen of Queens is tonight at Festival Village in Little Bay.

Calypso queens performing tonight are (l to r) Thalia, Keturah, Minell, Maxcine (front), Karene (back), Shaunelle, Chrystal, and Roxanne.

Seven women are hoping to dethrone current queen Karene Asche of Trinidad & Tobago.

Back again is former three-time queen Chrystal Beckles-Holder of Barbados. Also returning after a short absence are Menell Delices of Saint Lucia, current calypso monarch of Antigua Thalia King, and Shaunelle McKenzie of St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Roxanne Webster is representing Anguilla once again. Maxcine Lee was the top female scorer in the Montserrat calypso eliminations and semi finals and has the honour of performing tonight. New to the show is Keturah George of Grenada. Noticeably missing this year is a contender from St. Kitts and Nevis.

Tonight’s winner will take home a US$4000 cash prize. First runner-up US$2500 and third place gets US$1500. A consolation prize of US $400.00 will be awarded to all non-placing participants.

The show’s master of ceremonies is the incomparable ZJB morning man Basil Chambers and the Black Rhythms Band led by Cecile “Cepeke” Lake is accompanying the artists.

Showtime is 8PM at Festival Village in Little Bay. Cost is $30 adults and $15 children. Live stream of the event is on pay per view for US$9.99 on www.liveislandevents.com
