Representatives of the independent non-profit Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) are in Montserrat this week to run a baseline audit of the island’s readiness for emergencies.
EMAP is focused on fostering excellence and accountability in emergency management programs by establishing credible standards applied in a peer review accreditation process.
The coordinators will be reviewing the island’s current state of preparedness and provide a roadmap for continuous improvement.
Governor Sarah Tucker formally opened the training on Monday morning, welcoming both the coordinators and participants to the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) alongside Director Alvin Ryan.
The governor highlighted the importance of situational awareness, co-ordination between agencies and above all else, preparation for all types of emergencies which, in the context of Montserrat, could occur at any time. She also wished attendees a successful week and looked forward to receiving their feedback on the audit in due course.
