Cudjoe Head is a central village in Montserrat and gets its name from the story of Cudjoe, a slave who was beheaded for his efforts to become a free man. His head was cut off and hung in the silk cotton tree, not far from where events are held.
The village celebration is held the first Saturday in August and is a precursor to the August Monday celebration of Emancipation Day.
