SALEM – Montserrat residents are in for a treat this August with the performance of a brand new play from the acclaimed Montserratian writer and director Chadd Cumberbatch.
“’Every Wowlah House’ has been commissioned by Montserrat Volcano Observatory as part of the observance of the 20th anniversary of the eruption of the Soufrière Hills Volcano,” says a statement from the MVO.
The show will be performed by a cast drawn from the youth of the island after completion of a theatre workshop under the direction of Cumberbatch. The play, which incorporates a variety of art forms, draws on the experiences of Montserratians who have lived with and dealt with the volcano.
MVO Director, Roderick Stewart, said “we were keen to do something for Montserrat that, for once, was not about the science and the chance to work with Chadd is one that is not to be missed.”
Writer and director Chadd Cumberbatch said “the MVO have been wonderful and supportive partners in a process that started in January. ‘Every Wowlah House’ engages the participants in an organic process to create theatre that encompasses music, movement, mas, art and drama to tell a story.”
The production will be staged at Montserrat Cultural Centre on 1 August 2015. Ticket availability will be announced closer to the event.
Support for this production is being provided by Caribbean Helicopters Ltd, LIME and Delta Petroleum.
