Glenworth ‘Chef’ Prince is the new Montserrat Idol after beating out three other competitors for the honour.
Before a packed Cultural Centre, Chef, Richard “Yardie Richie” James, LaToya “Toya” Gordan and Jay Steed competed in three rounds.
The first was a selection of their choice from a previous round, the second an acapella rendition and the last was a new song.
Judges for the evening were Radio Host Basil Chambers, former calypsonian Karen “Lioness” Allen, former back up studio singer Michelle Graham and calypsonian and musician Herman “Cupid” Francis.
Tom Walker of Soca Cabana said he was pleased to be able to continue to deliver the popular karaoke-style competition every year.
The evening also featured lots of guest performances by new voices such as Nia Golden and Calypso Vedz and past Idol competitors including Natalia Durand and Sharlene Gibbons.
Chef took home a cash prize of $3000 and will have an opportunity to compete in the Martinique talent search to represent the island.
Second runner up was Toya, followed by Yardie Richie and Jay.
