Training has begun for nine recruits who have enlisted in the Royal Montserrat Police Service.

After several unsuccessful attempts to get young Montserratians to join the service, Deputy Commissioner Charles Thompson indicated earlier this year they would be extending the recruitment campaign to other territories.

The current recruitment class has one from Montserrat, one from Dominica and seven from St. Vincent. The recruits were recently included in the annual Queen’s Birthday Parade.

Training is scheduled to run for 22 weeks with instructors from the local police service and the community.

Inspector Julian Wade said the course is aimed at nurturing and molding the recruits and the officers will be equipped with critical skills necessary for the challenging field of security. Focus will be on the practical and technical aspects of the job as well as legal and practical field experiences.
