Montserrat officials attending disaster management course in UK

BRADES, Montserrat –The Honourable Chief Minister Reuben T. Meade and the Honourable Deputy Governor Sarita Francis are attending the Overseas Territories Disaster Management Seminar in the United Kingdom this week. 

The officials, along with Acting Director of the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA), Bennet Kirwan will be participating in the four-day programme sponsored by the UK Foreign Office. 

The seminar, which is being held at the Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre includes a presentation by former Governor of Montserrat Frank Savage, who served here from 1993 to 1997, during the onset of the volcanic crisis. 

Some of the topics to be covered are Strategic Disaster Management and Integrating Objectives into Regional and Island Development. 

The officials are expected to return to the island following the intensive short course.
