KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaican Entrepreneur, Valrie Grant is the winner of The 2015 Commonwealth Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
The award was presented on Monday, November 23, 2015 during the first Commonwealth Women’s Forum being held in tandem with the Commonwealth Business Forum in Malta. The Commonwealth Businesswomen’s Network is an accredited organization which focuses on women’s economic empowerment and is recognised by 53 countries across five continents.
Valrie Grant is the Managing Director of GeoTechVision Enterprises Ltd. (Jamaica) and GeoTechVision Guyana Inc. (Guyana). She is a trained Geologist and a GIS professional with over 15 years of experience in the geospatial field. The company has clients in 15 Caribbean countries.
Grant was one of four finalists invited to attend the inaugural women’s forum, which was held during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The other finalists were from Malta, South Africa and Tonga. She will now act as a Brand Ambassador for Commonwealth Businesswomen until the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Vanuatu in November 2017 and will join the Judging Panel for the next Award.
Following the announcement, Grant said that for her and the GeoTechVision family, the award reinforces that they are doing something right. She credited their success to the team being “farsighted and tenacious. These qualities have allowed the company to remain focused and have the fortitude and willingness to continue on the journey despite the obstacles.”
The entrepreneur thanked clients, family and friends for their unwavering support which has allowed the company to achieve much.
While GeoTechVision is Grant’s primary business, she is involved in other ventures including Guyana’s newest culinary haven Island Style Café and Juice Bar.
The entrepreneur also holds a Masters in Geographic Information Systems and Environment from the Manchester Metropolitan University. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for URISA International, the President of URISA Caribbean and an infoDev certified facilitator for the WINC Accelerator Program in the Caribbean. Valrie is the President of WENC (Women Entrepreneurs Network of the Caribbean) Guyana Chapter and is the 2015 Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) Ambassador for Guyana.
