The Montserrat SCUBA award is now available to assist nationals with learning how to enjoy the sport and experience life in the ocean.

During the Blue Halo Montserrat Mixer in early June, Hon. Minister of Agriculture Claude Hogan officially launched the award.

It is a collaboration between Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) and Blue Halo to create a legacy on the island.

Fifteen places are available in the scheme. CCC hopes that this will train up more Montserratians in diving and surveying ready to take over CCC’s role once our work is completed.

Each month CCC offers Montserratian nationals who display an ambition to study and protect the vital natural ecosystems of Montserrat an opportunity to take part in one of their Conservation Scholarships. The programmes last for one month and involve training the student in SCUBA diving or jungle skills. They then take part in an intensive Skills Development Programme giving them the knowledge and expertise to conduct ecological surveys.
