BRADES – The Government of Montserrat will be paying a portion of the water bills for all residents of the island, announced Chief Minister Reuben T. Meade on Thursday.
In light of the significant ash falls during the month of December, residents have had to use more water to clean their homes and surrounding areas to prevent ash build up and damage to properties. Chief Minister Meade said they were able to juggle funds to be able to offer this relief to residents.
“Persons will still pay the fixed rates to Montserrat Utilities Limited (MUL) but we will cover the balance on the December bill for all residents, regardless of where they live,” explained the leader of government. “It is one way we can show appreciation for the people who have taken the suffering with the ash.”
