December 2016 continued its reign as the month with the most accidents for the fifth year in a row.

According to the comparative road accident statistics released by the Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS) on Monday, January 9, 2017, there were a total of 129 accidents in 2016.

This was four more than 2015 and 18 more than in 2012. The lowest number of accidents were in the single digits with six in the month of May, June and October.

2014 was the last time when road accidents were below 100, with 96 during that year.

In the past, the RMPS had credited new drivers and the increase in visitors driving on the island for the increase in accidents during December, which is also festival season.
