On Thursday, Montserrat welcomed yachts participating in the Golden Rock Regatta.

According to the Tourism Division, the yachts will return on November 19th. About 10 yachts and 37 passengers are enjoying the warm weather and seas.

The yachts cleared Customs and later dropped anchor in Isles Bay for a festive evening at Hank’s Beach Bar.
The Golden Rock Regatta is an annual Caribbean sailing event, held in November between the islands St. Maarten, St Eustatius (Statia) and St. Barthelemy (St. Barth). St. Kitts or Anguilla are sometimes included in the programme.

The fleet consists mainly of chartered boats between 43 to 51 feet suitable for teams of 6 to 10 people. Teams come from all over the Northern Hemisphere, with the Netherlands and the US dominating. A number of regional teams also take part in the competition.
The Tourism Division said it was pleased that the Golden Rock Regatta has chosen Montserrat as a pause along their race course. It is anticipated that the fleet will have the opportunity to explore the land-based activities that the island has to offer and spread the word to fellow yachties that there is a special gem in the Caribbean just waiting to be discovered on their tour. It is also hoped that the Golden Rock Regatta organizers will make Montserrat an annual stopover destination on their future schedules.
