If you’ve seen The Skin, the thriller by Howard and Mitzi Allen of HAMAFilms Antigua, then you would remember the mysterious blue and white vase which sets the stage for a bit of mayhem in the movie.

Now fans of the popular film can have salt and pepper shakers made in the likeness of the infamous vase.

Michael Hunt of Cedar Pottery, designed and created the original vase which was used in the film, shot on Antigua in 2011. The local company has now created handcrafted copies of the original vase which are on sale in an effort to fund the couple’s next feature.

“We were very pleased with the work that Michael did for us in The Skin and jumped at the chance to collaborate with them again on creating some movie memorabilia,” said Director Howard Allen. “The salt and pepper shakers are already becoming a collector’s item. They are about four and quarter inches in height and as they are made by hand, each one is unique.”

While some fans are adding them to their Antigua collection, the filmmakers hope they will adorn the tables of residents and be used to add a bit of flavor to their meals.

“Historically salt and pepper were thought to have had mystical powers as they were used for antibacterial purposes around the home, and also to vanquish evil,” explained Producer Mitzi Allen. “They were used to preserve and protect and we thought they were a fitting way to recapture the story of The Skin and also our desire to honour our local culture.”

The shakers are in limited supply and are available in Antigua and will shortly be on sale in Toronto, Canada and New York. Proceeds go to finance Deep Blue, which is scheduled to begin shooting this summer on island.
