Arrivals Down for January and February 2016

Compared to the same period in 2015, arrivals to island are down for January and February 2016.

According to the Statistics Department Montserrat’s report for the period, there was a drop in tourists visiting the island from 1158 to 1090 this year.

There were 667 by air and 423 by sea for 2016 while in 2015, 804 came by air and 354 by sea.

Excursionists (day trippers) accounted for 280 of the arrivals in from the start of the year until February 29, 2016. This is 85 more day trippers than in 2015.

Cruise passengers for the first two months of 2016 was significantly more than in 2016. Already 2080 passengers arrived at Port Little Bay on the Star Legend and Sea Cloud. Only 514 passengers came into port in January and February of 2015.

There were 30 more yacht visits in January and February 2016 than in the same time in 2015. A total of 146 yachts with 611 passengers and crew visited the island. There were 116 in 2015.

In 2015, the largest number of tourists were from the USA (342), followed by the UK (284) then Canada (183). For this same period in 2016, USA (311), OECS (256) followed by the UK (223).

Travellers are most likely to be between 50 to 64 years. The majority of tourists stay in private homes, followed by guesthouses and apartments.
